This is a blog about a remarkable and little known natural resource just outside Washington D.C. in Virginia – Pimmit Run and Pimmit Run Stream Valley Park. Pimmit Run begins near Tysons Corner and ends at the Potomac River near Chain Bridge. The stream has a remarkable history, a rich collection of native plant communities, and is subject to the now familiar distressing impacts of development and climate change. I have the good fortune to live alongside the stream park and enjoy it almost daily. The opportunity to document the evolution of the stream over the course of a year has been a goal of mine for some time. Each month during 2021, I intend to update this blog with at least one post documenting my observations of nature, flora, and fauna, and, well, anything else that seems interesting along the stream and other nearby nature sites. Many of these observations are also documented in my Instagram account at www.instagram/chainbridgenatives. I will also include related topics periodically, including Pimmit Run's history, ecology, and points of interest. I hope to develop a record of Pimmit Run as it exists now and how it is changing before our eyes. #pimmitrun #pimmitrunstreamvalleypark #nativeplantsofvirginia #virginianativeplants #ecologicallandscapedesign #forestfloor #sustainability #saveourstreams #savethebay
