Hi, I'm Barbara Ryan, owner and founder of Chain Bridge Native Landscapes (aka Chain Bridge Natives). Plants and connecting with nature have been lifelong passions. I design regenerative/native gardens, restore habitat, and provide native plant acquisition and sustainable landscape guidance to those who seek to enhance the biodiversity of their properties. I work on just a few designs at a time so that I can devote the necessary attention to each one. I create, from beginning to end, all designs myself. The first step of every project is a conversation and/or on-site visit to discuss goals and options. Client projects range from full master plan designs, partial property designs, native plant acquisition, to coaching and guidance. I work as an independent designer and with trusted installers to implement approved final designs. I use CADD (Vectorworks) for my designs and examples appear below.

I hold a Master's Degree in Sustainable Landscape Design from George Washington University, am a Certified Virginia Horticulturist (VNLA), a Certified Level 2 Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP, Design and Installation), a Certified Fairfax Master Naturalist (former Audubon at Home Ambassador), and a Certified Interpretive Guide (NAI). BTW, I also hold BA, MA, and PhD degrees in Economics. It helps me understand how the natural world works. I currently serve on the Boards of the Virginia Native Plant Society, the Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council, the McLean Trees Foundation, and the McLean Citizens Association and as Chair of its Environment, Parks, and Recreation Committee.
